The ABS Trading group, located within the Structured Finance group,
which is part of the overall Securitized Products group, works with
“asset-backed securities”, which are bonds backed by financial assets in
the form of loan receivables. Typically these assets consist of
receivables generated from credit card loans, auto loans, student loans
and home equity loans, among others. The originators of these loans
package them into marketable securities and sell these securities to
institutional investors through a process known as securitization.
The ABS Trading group has expanded into trading in the Credit
Derivatives market. Credit Derivatives are financial contracts that
allow market participants to assume either a positive or negative
exposure to an entity’s credit to facilitate hedging and speculation. We
have exposure to this market through single name credit default swap
(CDS) instruments and through the ABX CDS index. The ABX Index is used
to take on synthetic risk across a spectrum of home equity securities.

management with the required level of information to assist them in
their business decision making process.
